hp 15-ac179tx

hey everyone! i am thinking to add a ssd to my laptop , regarding that i have to concern.

1) how to find whether my optical drive port is sata 2 or sata 3 because in case i it is sata 3 then i would replace it with ssd easily otherwise i would swap it with hdd and put my ssd in the main motherboard

2)how to find whether my laptop has inbuilt port for ssd drive port , in case if it do have then i dont need to change the optical drive

Hi,

Your PC does not have an extra port (M2) for SSD. So you will need to replace the hard drive with a 2.5" SSD of your preferred brand and capacity.

On page 42 of the service manual, you can see the steps to replace the drive.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04653884

Then install the OS on the SSD and let completly update (Settings>Verify for updates)

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

and HP support assistant for drivers

https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html

Once all is up and running you can place the HDD in a caddy in the optical drive bay. You could also just leave it out of the computer if the capacity of the SSD is enough.

Hope it helps,

David

Thanks for the reply , i have one more thing regarding this to ask. is the optical drive in hp 15ac179tx is SATA 2 or SATA 3 ? in case if it is SATA 3 i can easily use SSD instead on optical drive and there will be no need to open the latop and replace the HDD . perhaps in case if the optical drive is SATA 2 then i will definitely open the back of laptop and use my SSD instead of the HDD and use hhd in cady and insert it into the optical drive.
