Hi, I am fast losing the will to live trying to find the correct replacement keyboard for my laptop .. a UK layout.  I have spent ages searching the HP website for help, have looked for a replacement one in the Shop and via the Virtual agent and I just keep being taken around in circles.  So thought I'd ask here.

Doesn't HP sell it's own spare parts or is my laptop too old for them to stock it?  In which case, I'm happy to try other spare part sites but can't fiind the exact one on eBay or other sites!

Please can anyone help as my keyboard now won't type any vowels without me pressing way harder on those keys than on any others.  The vowels and multiple other character keys have also faded completely making it difficult for other non typists to use.  I'd be happy for any tips on how to repair my existing keyboard if possible (I have taken it back to disconnecting the interior ribbon and re-inserting it in case it was knocked loose ... but was just as bad afterwards.  Or do you think I actually do need a replacement and if so, from where?  Many thanks in advance for any help/advice.

Hi,

The part number for the keyboard is 809302-031

So you can try searching with part number

Examples

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313&_nkw=809302-031&_sacat=0

https://www.eetgroup.com/en-gb/809302-031-hp-top-cover-keyboard-uk-p-wid-w124435043

It comes as one part with the top cover. You will need to remove all parts from the old top cover to the new one.

Hi David,

I think I love you!!!  Thank you so much for giving me the part number.  The link to the manual you sent me said "Models

17-g000 – 17-g099" and I wasn't sure that was right for my 17-G151na.  Also the link to ebay still didn't say my model no. and the link to eet, as you said, came with the top cover which I don't want, just the keyboard itself.

So I searched instead for "hp pavilion keyboard 809302-031" and the first site that came up listed just the keyboard and specifically "HP Pavilion 17 G-151na" so I'm sure of this one AND it's at a bargain price.  I did see just one earlier and almost committed to it before asking as it was the only one I could find but it was £33 whereas this one is just £23 so I'm very happy!

Thank you so much again.  I should just have come straight here and asked first instead of spending hours looking just on the laptop model. How did you find the part no. so easily and quickly in case I need to use your source in future?

You're welcome.

Love is always good 😍

There are a couple of ways you can find the part number.

Go to the product page for your model and find the service manual

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04655126.pdf

Even if it is written that it is for the g000 series, the 100 will have the same parts.

On page 3 "For use in the United Kingdom      809302-031"

so we have the part number which we can check.

Take care,

David

Thanks again David.  I couldn't even find my product on the HP website!  So I'll bookmark this and download the manual too for future use.  You've been a mine of information for me and I'm really relieved and grateful.  I may come back and let you know how the replacement goes.  Thanks a million.

Best wishes and you take care too 🙂

You're welcome.

Yes, let me know how it works out or if you need further help.

It is not the easiest fixes to perform. As you will need to remove most of the parts of the notebook. Usually, the keyboard comes as one part with the top cover (the official HP part). However, some third parties sell only the keyboard.

So once you have removed most of the parts such as the motherboard, you will then need to remove the frame holding the keyboard in place on the top cover. Usually, it is held in place by small plastic rivets which will break off when you remove the frame.

When you have placed the new keyboard you can place the grill back and maybe use some hot glue or or "rubber" strong glue to keep it in place.

all the best,

David

Hi David ... it's me again!

It turns out  do need the keyboard with it's top cover and you gave me the eet link to it but no price on there and I can't seem to find on any other sites.  I wonder if you know anywhere that does have the same with the price showing.  I've looked and just keep getting the keyboard on its own, minus cover.

If I have to keep the keyboard and go with that instead and use my current cover ... I had an IT friend take a look and whilst he knows he has to remove the motherboard and all else to get to the keyboard, the metal plate/cover that keeps the keyboard in place (with all the plastic "rivets" in ... he's not seen this before and isn't sure taking that plate out and gluing it back over the new keyboad is wise.  In case it's too flat with glue and therefore make contact with components under that too.  Is the plate also held in place with any screws to prevent that?  Do you know of any repair videos or links that show the plate and keyboard being removed and/or replaced.

I'm also trying to weigh up if the price of either a) trying just the keyboard replacement (minus cover) but damaging the plate, possibly beyond repair ... or b) the cost of a new keyboard WITH the cover .... plus the cost of labour (£60 GBP) wouldn't be better spent putting towards a new laptop!  Which is a shame purely because of a keyboard with 6 or 7 faulty letters.  The letters do work, I just have to press them much harder than all the others, which means they're always missing and I have to go back and insert them!

So finding a price for the replacement keyboard with cover is essential ... and a video of how to get the coverless keyboard out of it's frame and replaced would be great too.  It's a big ask I know but worth me asking before perhaps buying a new laptop unecessarily.  And I can only think of you to turn to as the HP website ... even trying to find the part, is useless as laptop too old.
