i was wondering how I could find the amount of ram I could add to my computer, all help would be great, thanks!

If you give us the model number of the laptop we can provide that information based on the Service Manual for that model.

Service Manual 

 

see p. 6. Yours is a 7th gen model. There are two slots. It uses DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM which will bridge (downclock) to 2133 speed. So right now you have a 4 gb module and an open slot. You can uprade to 2 x 8 and in fact, although not reflected in the Manual, you could install 2 x 16 = 32 gigs.
