@Navya2605, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your laptop battery is not charging even though it is plugged in, and you're receiving a counterfeit battery error, follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Check Connection:

  • Ensure that the AC adapter is firmly connected to both the laptop and the power outlet.
  • Verify that the power outlet is functioning by plugging in another device.

Update BIOS:

Update Your HP Computer BIOS from Windows | HP Computers | HP Support

Inspect Hardware:

  • Check the AC adapter for any signs of damage.
  • Inspect the laptop's charging port for any obstructions or damage.

Run HP Battery Check

To diagnose battery issues, use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI tool to run a battery test:

  1. Disconnect the AC adapter.
  2. Press and hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the laptop.
  3. Turn on the laptop and immediately press esc repeatedly until the startup menu appears.
  4. Press f2 to access the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics menu.
  5. Click Component Tests in the main menu.

 Selecting Component Tests

  1. Select Power from the list of component tests.
  2. Select Battery from the list of power tests.
  3. Click Run once on the Battery Test page.

Interpret Battery Test Results

  • Passed: The battery functions properly. No action needed.
  • Calibrate: The battery needs calibration. Learn How to Calibrate Your Battery
  • Weak/Very Weak: The battery is aging and should be replaced for optimal performance.
  • Replace: The battery has failed and needs replacement. If under warranty, contact HP Support.
  • Failure with an ID number: Note the status and Failure ID, and contact HP Support.
  • No Battery: Ensure the battery is installed correctly.
  • Unknown: Unplug and replug the battery. Update HP Support Assistant.

Check and Replace Battery

Verify ACPI Battery Drivers:

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand the Batteries section

. Device Manager with Batteries highlighted

  • Right-click each ACPI option and select Uninstall.

Purchase Genuine Battery:
