In many programs running on Windows, 'F5' is the "refresh" function.

Start Internet Explorer, fetch a page, and press 'F5', to see if the key works at all, or is "broken".

Attach a USB keyboard, start PowerPoint, and press 'F5' on that keyboard, to see if PowerPoint reacts to that key, when the key-press comes from the external keyboard.  If it does, then PowerPoint is working correctly.

Hi,

You mean f5 function key?

Why are you pressing this key for?

What does SHIFT + F5 key do?

MS  OFFICE 2010 contains a PowerPoint module.  F5 key - start first slide of presentation, SHIFT+F5 combination - start current slide of presentation.

Hi,

To start a presentation from the current slide:
In PowerPoint 2003 or later:
press Shift+F5

To start a presentation from the beginning:
In PowerPoint for Windows:
press F5

Is this not the case?

This function is not started after pressing F5 in my HP 15-ay511ur.

To replace a F5 key or a all keyboard?

Boris

Start Internet Explorer, fetch a page, and press 'F5', but F5 key doesnt work.  In addition SHIFT+F5, CNTR+F5 and Fn+F5 work.

Unfortunately  I have not a USB keyboard.

Possibly a F5 key is "broken".

Too bad.  Can you "borrow" one from somebody, for a few minutes?

Keyboards work by sending "signals" to the motherboard:

Hold-down CTRL --> sends "make" and 'CTRL'

Press & release F5 --> sends "make" and 'F5' and "break"

Release CTRL --> sends "break"

So, if SHIFT-F5 works --> Make / CTRL / Make / F5 / break / break

then just F5 also should work -> Make / F5 / break

Using an external USB keyboard should be a good test of whether those "make" and "break" signals are being sent from that keyboard, and are properly being processed by the motherboard.
