laptop has a sudden and random freeze

HP Recommended
Pavilion 13-a050ca x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Pavilion 13-a050ca x360 is doing a hard freeze randomly and I can't seem to figure out why. When it does so, it seems to be completely random and I do not get a BSoD, it hard freezes, no error messages at all. The screen does not change or respond to input and I have to hard reset it to get it running again. The display stays where it is, it doesn't go blank.

At first I tried the standard HD diagnostic tests that are available on the server. I tried the CPU, mobo, memory, hdd tests and all passed fine. I also tried booting memtest86 onto a usb and running that tool and it also passed.

I re-installed windows with a fresh install and the freezing dramatically reduced in frequency, but today it hard froze again. So the fresh windows install didn't fix it. And the machine doesn't have a lot of software on it. basically windows + chrome right now after my fresh install and it still freezes.

I am running wifi connection and never LAN.

Any suggestions as to where to look next for errors? Do you think it's hardware related but my tests gave me false-negatives?

thanks so very much for your insights! I very much appreciate it

If you are running the Windows version of Diagnostics I would install the other listed on that page-HP Diagnostics UEFI. After installing shut down the laptop. After a brief wait power on and immediately start tapping Esc key. This will open a startup menu where you tap F2 to use Diagnostics UEFI.

ok, so I installed the UEFI onto a USB and booted and did full system scan on the machine and let it run for over 50 hours. it completed 32 full scan's and did not find any errors. I gave up after that.

any futher thoughts?

From your screenshot it appears that the Optimized DST Test never completed. That is the long test on hard drive -did it complete on any of the scans?

for some reason my responses do not appear to be showing. I pasted a log from my tests, maybe it's being flagged as spam.

either way, my log indicates that the LONG dst test finished. it ended with a result of '1', I assume that this means it passed. I watched a few tests, and never did I see any of the tests fail. I can try posting the log again if the forum will let me.
