I'm seriously considering buying the M7-U109DX model, but want to make sure about this: can anyone tell me FOR SURE that there is an avtual M.2 slot? I read a few comments throughout the internet about upgrading to SSD, but does it mean just replacing the existing HDD with a SSD drive, or does it mean that one can ACTUALLY add a SSD drive in a M.2 slot that is ACTUALLY in the computer and leave the original HDD drive in place?
Tks!

Hi @Serge3,
Good Day! Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! I understand that you require information regarding the supported SSD for your computer and you would like to know more about it. It will be a delight to assist you here.
Brilliant effort and superb diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. I am amazed at your technical expertise.
We greatly value your relationship with HP. You are a valued HP customer and we appreciate you greatly for doing business with HP. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you.
First off, I reviewed both the product specifications of the computer and the service and maintenance guide.
I will give you the list of supported SSDs based on the service guide.
Link for product specifications: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-m7-u100-Notebook-PC/10862139/model/13443433/document/c05...
Link for service and maintenance guide: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05282360
It supports these SSDs only. The capacity and the relevant information is given below:
- · 512-MB, M.2, SATA solid-state drive supporting triple-level cell (TLC)
- · 256-MB, M.2, SATA solid-state drive supporting TLC
Please refer to chapter 1 page 3 for more information in this regard.
- Which means that both the hard drive and the M.2 SSD can coexist.
Please note that HP does not recommend upgrading either the operating system or the computer’s hardware as the components that were initially installed with the unit are certified byHP for optimal performance.
However, as you are very technically inclined, I would still request you to consult a local technician like Best Buy or Staples before proceeding to upgrade the unit.
So please contact a local Best Buy or staples technician and perform the upgrade so that there are no compatibility issues with the SSD for your computer and everything works smoothly.
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you.
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.
If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care now and have a splendid week ahead.

Great response - thank you!
Now another piece of information: last night I visited my local Best Buy store. When I asked the question to one of their sales specialists, he answered that there was no M.2 slots in that lapotop. When I insisted that I had read several reviews stating that there was one, he asked a Geek Squad technician, who said he didn't think so but was willing to open the floor model. We together found out for sure that there is an M.2 slot!
So, David, your reply is correct but what I find even more useful is that you took the time to specify the exact SSDs that are compatible.
Thank you very much for that!
THe bottom line: I assume that all versions of that model are the same, but could not confirm with anyone that I spoke with.
Take care,
Serge3
