Hi @elissa7,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I understand your HP Spectre x360 is going to sleep when it’s in tablet mode. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.
Check the power settings for lid and sleep actions
Go to Control Panel → Power Options → “Choose what closing the lid does.”
Make sure “Do nothing” is selected for both “On battery” and “Plugged in.”
Update the Intel/AMD chipset and HP System Event Utility
These control the 2-in-1 sensors (like rotation and lid position).
Install all updates from HP Support Assistant or the HP drivers page for your model.
Turn off Modern Standby / Sleep sensitivity (if available)
Go to Settings → System → Power & Battery → Additional Power Settings.
Set Sleep to a longer time or change the behavior under advanced settings.
Disable tablet-mode power saving actions
Go to Settings → System → Multitasking / Tablet.
If you see an option like “When I use my device as a tablet”, set behavior to “Don’t switch” or “Ask me”, then test again.
Check for a faulty lid/rotation sensor
Put the laptop into tablet mode slowly and watch if the screen flickers or dims.
If the sensor misreads the hinge angle, it may trigger sleep unexpectedly.
Update BIOS and firmware
Go to the HP support page for your exact model (14-ef2xxx).
Install the latest BIOS—this often fixes hinge sensor and tablet mode issues.
Test in tablet mode with the keyboard folded fully back
Make sure the keyboard is rotated all the way into tablet position.
If it stops halfway, the laptop may think the lid is “closed” and go to sleep.I hope this helps.
