Hi @HR72,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Hearing a relay-like clicking or buzzing sound when connecting the charger to your HP laptop can be concerning, but it often doesn’t indicate a severe problem if the laptop is working fine otherwise. Here are some steps you can take to investigate and potentially resolve the issue.

Check the Charger and Port:

  • Ensure the charger is the original one that came with the laptop or an official HP replacement.
  • Inspect both the charger and the charging port on your laptop for any visible damage or debris. Clean the port gently if needed.

Listen Carefully:

  • Try to identify where precisely the sound is coming from. Check to see if it’s from the charger, the charging port, or somewhere else on the laptop.

Try Another Outlet:

  • Sometimes electrical outlets themselves can contribute to odd sounds due to grounding issues. Try plugging your charger into a different electrical outlet.

Battery Status:

  • Check if the battery is charging correctly and holding a charge. In Windows, you can see this by clicking the battery icon in the taskbar.

Update BIOS and Drivers:

  • Ensure your laptop's BIOS and power management drivers are up to date. You can check for updates through the HP Support Assistant on your laptop or visit HP's support website for your model.

Testing:

  • If possible, test your laptop with another compatible HP charger to see if the issue persists.

Power Reset:

  • Try performing a power reset on the laptop. Turn off the laptop, disconnect it from the power supply, and remove the battery if it's detachable. Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds, then reconnect everything and power the laptop back on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
