Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, I have an hp pavilion 17-ab201nc laptop and I would like to know if it supports an M.2 PCIe NVMe drive, or how powerful an M2 drive I could install.

And then one more question about RAM, what maximum RAM parameters can I use for this laptop.

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Hi:

Yes, your notebook has a M.2 slot that supports a NVMe SSD.

Your notebook's M.2 SSD slot is PCIe Gen 3.0.

A PCIe Gen 4 SSD will work, but it won't run at its maximum advertised read/write speeds from the Gen 3 slot.

This table shows the maximum transfer speeds each PCIe slot generation can provide:

PCIe Speeds and Limitations | Crucial.com

See chapter 1 of the service manual:

NB_MSG_Parfait_1_4_Win10_855133-004 (hp.com)

The manual also states you can install 2 x 8 GB of DDR4-2400 memory, but your notebook will support 2 x 16 GB of DDR4-2400 memory if you want.

You can run this command to confirm that 32 GB of memory would be supported in your notebook:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and press the enter key.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.
