It appears that my hard drive has failed and want to replace it with an SSD drive. Can I upgrade to an SSD drive in this convertable laptop? Currently it has a 1 tb Serial ATA mobile HDD.

Yes, you can replace old HDD with a 2.5" SATA-3 SSD drive using

Or similar from reputable vendors.
