upgrade RAM on HP X360 15-br018na

Hi All,

Can someone please let me know if its possible to upgrade the memory from 4Gb to 6Gb or 8Gb please on the X360 15-br018na.  I have looked at the service guide http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05473330 but on page 1 it says  "Two SODIMM memory module slots, non-customer-accessible/non-upgradable"  then on Page 46 it then goes on to tell you how to upgrade them and how to remove them.  It is a bit contradictory. 

I don't fancy spending 2 hours taking it all apart and removing the motherboard only to find they are soldered.  That would be really annoying 🙂

There are MANY Chapters and Sections on the book and page 46 is under Section for Authorized Service Provider parts. But if you wish, you can do yourself at your own risk using the following RAM to up 16GB max

or just add 4GB to slot 2 to make 8GB in total

There is NO option to go to 6GB.

Many thanks for your fast response.  I appreciate it.  I'm a computer repair engineer (not HP Authorized) working on a Customers laptop. Didn't want to crack it open if there was no point as I would have to charge him for my time.

I'm a bit more confused now though 🙂  Page 1 states:

Memory Two SODIMM memory module slots, non-customer-accessible/non-upgradable
Supports up to 16-GB of system memory
DDR4-2133 dual channel support (DDR4-2400 downgrade to DDR4-2133)
Supports the following conƭgurations
● 16384 MB (8192 MB × 2)
● 8192 MB (8192 MB × 1)
● 6144 MB (4096 MB + 2048 MB)
● 4096 MB (4096 MB × 1)

Which suggests 6Gb is possible (although I am likely to go for 8Gb anyway).

Yes, that's true you can get 4+2 = 6 and 4+8 = 12 but unless you have 20 dollars short and you want machine runs in SINGLE channel why not go for 4+4 = 8 or 8 + 8 = 16 to make machine to run DUAL channels ?

Anyway, again, you can install your self at your own risk. I used to replace RAM/HDD in under 10 mins (hardware wise) but now, I have to spend hours just to open the machine itself.

Well - its not clear otherwise I wouldn't have asked the question and I have been repairing and upgrading computers for nearly 30 years!

Hi,

It is definitely possible and your notebook will actually support max 32GB of DDR4 2400Mhz (2x16GB) which will run at 2133Mhz

That model is not the easiest to replace the memory, as you need to remove the motherboard and flip it to get access to the slots.

On page 45 of service manual you can see the steps to install the RAM
