webcam on Envy 15 intermittently works

ENVY 15
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HI all. I have a webcam that works, well, sometimes. Like the rest of the world I'm working a lot with Zoom now and the camera flashes a picture but then cuts out repeatedly. The camera doesn't really work in any other application either (but there are signs of life and the drivers seem fine). Sound familiar to anyone? Thank you

@NH30

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊

HI. Thank you for your response. Yes, I tried all that and in device manger all is well and the drivers are updated. I spent 2 hours with one of your online helpers who was FANTASTICALLY patient on the phone and we went through this and another problem. But it came back. I've since discovered that after a day of extensive use of the camera it seems to pack up but a hard reset brings it back. Not the most elegant solution but if that continues to work, I can live with it... which segues quite nicely to the second problem we worked on the other night. And that is a shut down problem since I upgraded to Windows 10 however many years ago. In short, whenever the computer goes into a times sleep or hibernation it hangs and only a hard reset wakes it up. The guy who helped me looked up the problem and we changed all sorts of parameters inside the power management area of Settings, but it still hangs after being left (certainly overnight) in sleep or hibernate. Have you heard of this problem? Thank you

@NH30 The device may heat up when left on all the time, which is why its recommended that you turn if off when not in use (overnight), that said, if you don't wish to turn if off as such, perhaps, you could get a cooling pad to ensure the device doesn't overheat.

Let me know if that helps!

Good luck.
