So for a while I've noticed my notebook never truly goes to sleep and i began investigating this after having my computer overheat several time in my bag while it was in sleep mode. Using a command it reports the system firmware does not support the S3 state.
I know windows and manufacturers are pushing for not supporting S3 to try and make the wake up experience faster, but with new SSD technology and the computational power of modern CPUs I feel that keeping a laptop in a higher state is completely unnecessary. I would most definitely prefer the longer battery life and true low power state that comes with the S3 sleep state than the modern sleep since the computer drains so much more battery percentage in S1.
The gist of it all: Please add S3 sleep state back in the ACPI tables
