Hi
I'm trying to fix my neighbours computer, it's a Pavilion dm3 and somehow she managed to completly lock the system. When it boots it just asks for the administrator password and will not continue to boot, not even bios menu is available.
I've read some other posts on this forum that the way to unlock it is to post the "halt code" given when 3 passwords have failed, in my case that code is: 51019908
Let me know if you need any other information.
Also, how does one even end up in this state, I've never seen this kind of lockdown before?

Hi,
Usually the 'power on password' option has to be set in the bios.
Shutdown the notebook, power it back on and try entering: 44971328

Password codes are unique to each laptop.
Do you need a BIOS password???

I need the administrator password that will allow me to get into the bios or any other high level system password. My user administrator password is not good enough for high level usage. I have only recently tried to get into this type of password and cannot get help from HP without paying for their support. I do not want to pay for their support. I am disappointed that my computer did not come with the system password when I purchased it. Thanks for your response.
