All "Thunderbolt" and USB drives no longer work properly. I have a Samsung T5 SSD drive that works with one of the Thunderbolt ports, but now my Samsung T7, USB type-C hub, and USB hub do not operate correctly. I get the following set of errors when trying to fix the message "No drivers are installed for this device. " and trying to update the driver. This same situation happens with the USB hub and USB Type-C hub; both have an issue about not having a driver and fail when attempting to update the driver. I have never needed to install drivers for the Samsung T7 SSD drive, USB Type-C hub, or USB hub.

If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit their website and check the support

In addition, on several occasions, the Thunderbolt ports stopped working altogether. I had to let the laptop drain entirely of power, unplug it from the outlet, and leave it until the battery drained. When I restarted, the ports worked again.

Thanks so much for your time and assistance. I finally remedied my port issues after navigating through a labyrinth of actions. Ultimately, it seemed to be an old Western Digital external drive driver. After Driver Manager manipulations, updating drivers, BIOS update, Power Management, UEFI Diagnostics, etc., I noticed Windows Security showed a warning for Device Security, Core Isolation. I attempted to activate the security option, which gave an error concerning an incompatible driver associated with old Western Digital applications for managing an external drive I no longer use. After a lengthy process to rid the laptop of all vestiges of the WD software (registry, disk, msconfig, etc.), I performed a Windows Update Recovery of the current version and then did an update to the latest Windows version and bingo, all ports worked with my various devices, SSD drives, external keyboard, USB hubs, the works. I received quite a lot of education in Windows administration.
Thanks again!

Hi @dsjohndavid007,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're encountering several issues with the ports on your HP Spectre x360 Laptop. Here's a step-by-step approach to troubleshoot and potentially resolve these problems.
Restart Your Laptop: Start by restarting your laptop to see if it resolves the immediate issues with the ports.
Check Device Manager:
- Right-click on the Start menu and select "Device Manager."
- Look for any devices under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" and "Ports (COM & LPT)" that have a yellow exclamation mark (!) or a red X icon.
- If you find any, right-click on them and select "Update driver." Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software" and follow the prompts to update the drivers. Repeat this process for all affected devices.
Verify Thunderbolt Firmware:
- Ensure that your laptop's Thunderbolt firmware is up to date. You can usually find updates through HP's support website or the HP Support Assistant application.
Reset Thunderbolt Controller:
- Sometimes resetting the Thunderbolt controller can resolve connectivity issues. To do this, restart your laptop and enter the BIOS settings (usually by pressing Esc or F10 during boot). Look for an option related to Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt security, and reset it to default settings.
Check Power Settings:
- Ensure that your laptop's power settings are not affecting the USB ports. Sometimes, power-saving settings can disable ports to conserve energy.
Update Windows:
- Make sure your Windows operating system is fully updated. Sometimes, system updates include fixes for hardware compatibility and driver issues.
Check for BIOS Update:
- Check if there's a BIOS update available for your laptop. BIOS updates can sometimes resolve hardware issues.
Test with Another Device:
- Test the problematic ports with different devices to rule out issues with specific peripherals.
Reset Power Management:
- Sometimes resetting the laptop's power management settings can help. You can do this by shutting down the laptop, disconnecting all peripherals, and holding down the power button for 15-30 seconds. This drains residual power from the system.
By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and hopefully resolve the issues with your HP Spectre x360 Laptop's ports.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

None of the steps below fixes the issue with devices connected to my USB or Thunderbolt drives. They show in Device Manager with a yellow exclamation mark (!). Trying to update the drivers gives an error.

I updated drivers for anything that said Thunderbolt and performed a BIOS update. Every device has the same driver issue: USB hub, type-C hub, portable SSD drive, external keyboard, etc. I checked the power settings. I do not see an option to reset the Thunderbolt Controller when pressing Esc during boot.
I tried to perform a Windows Update, but it also failed: Error Windows 11, version 22H2 Failed to install on 7/13/2024 - 0xc1900101. I am at a total loss as to why this started happening; devices were connected without issue previously.
