HP ENVY x360 - 15t-cn100 CTO
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

Tried and tried, giving up and now asking for help

Model: HP ENVY x360 Covertible 15-cn1xxx
Product ID: 5GM30AV

Here is the sequence of events:
Came pre-installed with Win10 in 2019; battery wore down over time and laptop was pretty much working with charger direct
1. Laptop had been getting slower and slower on boot and displayed a message of a boot file not loading as a windows popup; I ignored that
2. One day touch screen stopped working and just restarted the laptop
3. Then Windows stopped booting
4. After trying to repair the startup files through Recovery Environment; took backup and re-installed new Win 11 through cloud
5. During the process installed a new battery as well; but 3rd party only was available with terminals showing on the wrong side of the sticker; barely touched the terminals inverted for 0.5 sec not even all the way; saw a little bit of smoke nearby and smell.
6. Waited for the smell to go away; installed battery correctly and laptop was working fine
7. Laptop was not detecting battery and not really charging it always showing 100%
8. Read that BIOS update could be the problem
9. Updated the BIOS from F.21 to F.29 after a lot of hit and try as never really found the support page for this model (using FN F2 method and inserting USB/Flashdrive with software)
10. Windows never booted again, it basically turns off after the windows logo. Tried to install again; saw a few : (

blue screens but just turns off nowadays
11. BIOS rollback not working; even tried windows B for 3 sec while powering on method

Exhausted; do not want to spend $$$ taking a 5year old machine to Best Buy (HP's authorized repair center).

PLEASE HELP if you can!

Hi @AdeelS, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Wow, it sounds like your HP ENVY x360 has been on quite the adventure! Let's see if we can get it back on track and running smoothly again. 🛠

First off, kudos to you for your persistence! Now, let's tackle this step by step:
Battery Not Charging

It seems the new battery is not being detected correctly. Here are a few steps you can try:

  1. Check Battery Connection: Ensure the battery is properly connected. Sometimes, a loose connection can cause detection issues.
  2. Uninstall Battery Drivers: Go to Device Manager, expand the Batteries section, and uninstall the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" driver. Restart your laptop, and Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.
  3. BIOS Update: Since you've already updated the BIOS, ensure it's the correct version for your model. You can find the latest BIOS update and instructions on the HP support page

Windows Not Booting

Since Windows is not booting after the BIOS update, you can try the following:

  1. BIOS Rollback: If the BIOS update caused the issue, rolling back to the previous version might help. Follow the instructions on the HP support community for BIOS rollback.
  2. Clean Install of Windows: If the rollback doesn't work, you might need to perform a clean install of Windows 11. Ensure you have a backup of your data before proceeding.

Blue Screen Errors

Blue screen errors can be caused by various issues, including hardware and software conflicts. Here are some steps to troubleshoot:

  1. Check for Hardware Issues: Ensure all hardware components are properly connected and functioning.
  2. Run Diagnostics: Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool to check for hardware issues.
  3. Update Drivers: Ensure all drivers are up to date. You can use the HP Support Assistant to automatically update drivers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
