OMEN by HP - 17-an018na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I have downloaded a new BIOS update from HP website for my laptop, but when I try to install it by double-clicking the file, nothing happens after I accept the terms/conditions/user licence. I have followed all the instructions from the HP youtube channel about updating the version but still with no luck. Please can someone help with this, many thanks.

Hi @TK182,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand you’re trying to update the BIOS on your OMEN by HP 17-an018na laptop, but after running the installer and accepting the license terms, nothing happens. Let’s go through some steps to resolve this.

Check Current BIOS Version

Press Windows + R, type msinfo32, and press Enter.

Look for BIOS Version/Date to confirm which version is currently installed.

Compare it with the one available on HP’s support site to ensure the update is necessary.

Run the Installer as administrator.

Right-click the downloaded BIOS file (e.g., spXXXXX.exe) and select Run as administrator.

Disable antivirus software temporarily, as it may block the installer.

Use HP Support Assistant

Download and install HP Support Assistant if not already installed.

Run it and check for BIOS updates directly, it can handle the update process more reliably.

Perform BIOS Update via USB (if Windows method fails)

Insert a USB drive (formatted as FAT32).

Run the BIOS installer, it should offer an option to create a recovery USB drive.

Restart the laptop, press Esc → F2 to enter System Diagnostics, then select Firmware Management > BIOS Update and point to the USB.

Reset BIOS Settings Before Updating

Restart the laptop and press F10 to enter BIOS setup.

Load Default Settings, save, and exit.

Try running the BIOS update again.

I hope this helps.
