My laptop is HP Envy x360 15 fh0000 just over 11 months old. I've been getting a few frequent BSDOs (resolved when power off-on the power button), "CRITICAL PROCESS DIED", "BOOT DEVICE NOT FOUND", " MEMORY MANAGEMENT" (only once), " UNEXPECTED STORE EXCEPTION". I remember the first time I got BSDO I bumped the lower side of my laptop into a top notch of a glass cup, then the second I was resting my hand and head on top of my laptop right on the side of the touchpad, and I get some patterns that BSDO often occur if the laptop moved or tweak with some stress, but often time it's also random. It always occurs suddenly, never on start up.

Currently what's trigger it is moving the laptop back from 180° or 360° position, I never get BSDO when turning into tablet mode, but frequently when turning back from tablet mode. I'm not sure if it because the movement of the hinges or just because all of the movement of turning the screen back in general. The BSDOs I got from this varied between what I state above. Often also, after power off and on, when I tried to type my password on the log-in screen, I will get BSDOs again "CRITICAL PROCESS DIED".

I have only tried the BIOS Diagnostic test, pass everything except storage test because it said "No storage installed". I highly suspect something with the SSD is wrong but I'm not sure what's behind all of the many BSDOs messege. I need an opinion on this because I have inssurance from the shop I bought the laptop from but I'm currently not in the same city. What step I can/should take before needing to take apart the laptop?

Hi @Rae101,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for sharing such detailed observations; they’re very helpful. Based on your description, here’s what stands out:

Key Clues

  • Frequent BSODs with varied stop codes:
CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED, BOOT DEVICE NOT FOUND, MEMORY MANAGEMENT, UNEXPECTED STORE EXCEPTION.
  • Physical stress correlation: Occurs when moving from 180°/360° back to laptop mode.
  • BIOS diagnostics passed except storage test: “No storage installed” is a red flag.
  • First BSOD after a bump: Possible internal connection issue.

Likely Causes

  1. Loose or partially disconnected SSD
    • The hinge movement could be flexing the motherboard and affecting the SSD connection.
  2. Faulty SSD or storage controller
    • Explains “BOOT DEVICE NOT FOUND” and “No storage installed” in diagnostics.
  3. Motherboard flex damage
    • If the bump caused micro-cracks in solder joints, movement could trigger errors.
  4. Secondary possibility: RAM seating issue
    • But less likely since the memory test passed.

Steps Before Service

  1. Run HP UEFI Diagnostics (Full Storage Test)
    • Power off → Press Esc repeatedly → F2 → Run Component Tests → Storage.
    • If it still says “No storage installed,” the SSD is not being detected at the hardware level.

  2. Check BIOS for SSD Detection
    • Press Esc → F10 for BIOS → Under Storage, see if SSD is listed.
    • If missing, it’s either loose or failed.

  3. Update BIOS & Chipset Drivers
  4. If Comfortable: Reseat SSD
    • Power off, unplug the charger, and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
    • Open the bottom cover carefully → Remove and reinsert SSD.
    • Ensure screws are tight and no flex on the connector.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
