Spectre
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I was getting a BSOD with stop code: CRITICAL PROCESS DIED. I then updated Windows, BIOS, etc, and now am getting BSOD with WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR.

I also keep getting an error message popping up telling me to only use HP battery with my computer, although I have only been using the cable / battery that originally came with the computer, so I'm not sure if there is an issue there.

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Next run a System Test to confirm the Hardware Functionality

- Shut down the Notebook completely
- Turn it back on, then tap the Esc key repeatedly until the Startup menu screen is displayed.
- Press F2 to select System Diagnostics.
- Click System Tests, then click Extensive Test.

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊

Thank you for these suggestions, but none of these steps helped. All HPSA updates are complete. A helpdesk employee from Microsoft spent 5 hours remotely logged onto my machine making sure the software was up to date - including Windows - and assured me it wasn't a software problem. I've run the extensive system check and all came back 'passed'.

It happens 5x per day, at least. Sometimes it gives me the BSOD and then another BSOD as it is resetting, before it even gets back to letting me type in my password to get into the homescreen. This laptop is only 3 years old, this doesn't seem right. Any other suggestions?

Thank you.

I understand your concerns.

In that case, I would suggets you perform the system recovery.

1. Shutdown the computer.

2. Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.

3. Press F11 once for System Recovery.

4. Choose the Keyboard Layout.

5. Click on Troubleshoot.

6. Go to Recovery Manager and click on System Recovery.

Note : Back-up all your data as System Recovery will delete everything that you had saved or installed on the computer.

Have a nice day!!
