Hi, my battery shows 255% available (mains power). I put a new battery and power cable. It did not help.

Hi @Ilya98

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

1. Perform a Power Reset

Sometimes, a simple reset of the power cycle can clear issues with incorrect battery readings.

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Unplug the power cable and remove the battery (if possible).
  • Hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain any residual power from the system.
  • Reinsert the battery and reconnect the power cable.
  • Power on the laptop and check if the battery issue persists.

2. Check Battery Health in Windows

  • Press Windows + X and select Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin).
  • Type the following command and press Enter:
  • This will generate a battery report and save it as an HTML file. The file is usually saved to your user folder (C:\Users\[YourUsername]).
  • Open the file and look for information on battery health, charge capacity, and any discrepancies that might indicate a problem.

3. Update Battery Drivers

  • Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager.
  • Expand the Batteries section and right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
  • Choose Update Driver and select Search automatically for updated driver software.
  • If an update is found, follow the on-screen instructions to install it, then restart the laptop.

4. Update BIOS/UEFI

  • Visit the HP Support page and search for your laptop model (OMEN by HP Laptop 16-c0040ur).
  • Check for any BIOS updates available for your specific model.
  • If an update is available, carefully follow the instructions on HP’s website to update the BIOS.

5. Check for Windows Updates

  • Open Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
  • Install any available updates and restart your laptop.

6. Battery Calibration

  • Discharge the battery completely (let it drain to 0% if possible), then fully charge it back to 100%.
  • This may help recalibrate the battery and ensure the system can properly detect the charge.

7. Test with HP Support Assistant

  • Download and install the HP Support Assistant (if it’s not already installed).
  • Open the app and go to the Diagnostics section.
  • Run a Battery Test to check if there are any hardware-related issues with the battery or power supply.

8. Check the Power Adapter and Battery.

  • Test the new battery on another HP laptop to ensure it's functioning properly.
  • If available, try using a different HP power adapter to rule out issues with the power supply.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
