HP 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-c0000 (2W0J9AV)

Have no bitlocker password for year old  touchscreen 17 inch laptop that reset.  No outlook account exists to retrieve code under devices tab……found old code and did not work since I reset the computer again and made another account at outlook.  tried the usb reset, old disc, pressing f9 repeteadly and esc,  and they don’t work either. Want to return it this blue screen looks so bad. Any one solve this. Have a new account I closed on outlook that has the code for bitlocker in it but Microsoft will not let me open it to get code so I’m screwed. Because I deactivated new outlook account, which I never wanted with this **bleep**ty laptop with bad USB.

Hi @Joerodriguez,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can feel the frustration in your words, and rightly so. Being locked out of your own laptop due to BitLocker, especially when recovery options are tangled up in account issues, can feel like hitting a wall. Let’s walk through this.

What’s Happening with Your HP 17.3" Laptop (Model: 17-c0000)

Your laptop has triggered BitLocker recovery, which is a security feature built into Windows to protect your data. When the system detects a change like a reset, hardware swap, or account change, it asks for the BitLocker recovery key.

Since you:

  • Reset the laptop
  • Created a new Outlook account
  • Deactivated that account
  • And don’t have access to the original Microsoft account where the recovery key was stored...

You’re unfortunately in a situation where Microsoft cannot retrieve the key. Even HP cannot bypass BitLocker encryption; it’s designed to be secure even from manufacturers.

What You Can Try

Check All Possible Locations for the Recovery Key

Microsoft lists these places where your key might be:

If the Account Is Deleted

Microsoft does not allow recovery of BitLocker keys from deleted accounts. Even if you remember the key or recovery ID, it must match the current encryption state, which changes after a reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
