Hello,

The Boot Device Not Found Error or Hard Drive Not Detected may report a problem with the hard disk and may need to be replaced to resolve the issue. If possible, back up your personal files to a USB flash drive or external hard drive as soon as you can.

To check whether or not it has a hardware problem, please perform a Testing for Hardware Failures.

The following documents are available for reference:
HP PCs - Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7)

If there is a failure ID during hard disk test, please follow the procedure for replacing the hard drive in the HP manual below on pages 46, 47 and 48.
Maintenance and Service Guide

In case of need, do not hesitate to contact us.

In the diagnostic page I ran f2 and f3 test which are memory tests and both passed f4 which is the hard disk test as soon as I push f4 hard disk not exist appears at the top of the page in yellow,  I push escape  then ''hard disk test'' failed, and ''boot device not found''  (3FO) all in red appears on the top of the systems diagnostics  page  and at the bottom of the page it says for more information please visit: www.hp.com\go\techcenter\startup  in blue.   What should I do next? Thank you for your help and patience,  Greg Perry

Hi,

It appears that the hard drive is probably dead. The 3FO error sometimes comes when the mbr of the hard drive is damaged but the hhd diagnostic test usually passes OK. I'd probably try the 4 in 1 USB key:
