Hi @AbdulazizK,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're experiencing is likely due to the broken battery, as a defective or non-functioning battery can cause power irregularities during the boot process. Here are some steps you can try to minimize the problem without replacing the battery.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Shut down your laptop and disconnect it from the power source.
  • Remove any external devices (USBs, external drives, etc.).
  • Hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  • Reconnect the power adapter (without the battery, if it's removable) and try booting the laptop.

Update BIOS

  • Go to the HP support page and check for a BIOS update for your laptop model.
  • Follow the instructions to update the BIOS, as this might help manage the power states more effectively.

Disable the Battery in Device Manager

  • If your battery is not removable, you can try disabling it in Windows:
    1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
    2. Expand Batteries and right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
    3. Select Disable device.
    4. Restart your laptop and see if the issue improves.

Set Power Adapter as Primary Power Source

  • Some laptops have an option in the BIOS to disable the battery as the primary power source and use the adapter instead.
  • To access BIOS, press Esc or F10 during startup (the key depends on your laptop model).
  • Look for an option related to battery or power settings and configure it to prioritize the adapter.

Test with a Different Power Adapter

  • If your power adapter is not providing consistent power, it might cause the laptop to shut down during boot. Try using a different, compatible HP adapter to see if it makes a difference.

Check for Power Management Settings in Windows

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options and select a high-performance power plan.
  • Ensure that sleep or hibernate settings are not interfering with the boot process.

Inspect for Hardware Issues

  • If the problem persists, it may be caused by other components such as the motherboard or power delivery system. Run the HP Diagnostics Tool:
    • Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly to open the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics menu.
    • Perform a power and hardware test to identify any issues.

When the battery is broken or missing, the laptop relies entirely on the AC adapter for power. During boot-up, there are power surges as the system initializes, and without a functioning battery to stabilize power delivery, the laptop may struggle to start properly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
