Every few minutes I am getting some sort of sound from my computer -- a little beep-beep-beep (sometimes four tones).  I record a lot of stuff so I want to get rid of it -- besides, it's a pain hearing it so often.  Can I find out what is causing this so I can turn it off?

Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums After reading your post I see that you want to turn off the notification. I will be a delight to assist you here.

Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. 🙂  Kudos to you on that score.:)

Follow the below steps to turn off the notifications:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Click on System.
  3. Click on Notifications & actions.
  4. Under "Get notifications from these senders," click the app you want.

  5. Turn off the Play a sound when a notification arrives toggle switch.

Let me know if that helps.

Cheers.

I am still getting the sound.  I have an MP3 so you can hear the actual sound.  How  can I send it to you?

I did receive your reply to me in an email; I replied, but it bounced back.  It's possible that HP.Support.Forum@hp.com does not receive email.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, it is possible that HP.Support.Forum@hp.com does not receive mail.

However, I will need a few details to provide an accurate solution,

  • Where this noise appears?
  • When was the last time it occurred?
  • Does it appear while using a headphone to check if its hardware or software issue?

Reply with the result of the above-mentioned steps, for further assistance.

Cheers.

1.  Pretty much all the time.  I usually have several programs running:  Firefox, Thunderbird, and some others.  I get no visual or other information; I don't know what program(s) are causing, or if it's Windows.

2.  10-15 minutes ago; a couple of times, but 2-3 hours between the last ones.  I've probably gotten it 10-12 times so far today.

3.  I use my headphones only infrequently.  I don't want to sit with them on and wait on the sound; no telling how long it will be.  I've always heard it so far through my computer speakers.

I would still iike to send you a small MP3 of the sound.  Can you give me a standard email address?  Or do  what you have to do so I can send an attachment here.

Can you give me a case number to refer to?

I'm still having this problem, and I've turned off notifications in all apps.  I raised this with Microsoft yesterday, and they tell me it's a hardware issue.
