Hi @Daryth

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're having trouble controlling the keyboard backlighting and color on your HP Omen 17-inch laptop after performing a system recovery. This issue can happen if the necessary software or drivers are missing or not functioning properly after a system reset.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you restore the ability to control the keyboard backlighting and lighting colors:

1. Ensure Omen Command Center Is Installed

The Omen Command Center is the main software used to control the backlighting, keyboard colors, and other features like performance settings. If the software isn’t installed, or if it was incorrectly installed after the recovery, you’ll need to install or reinstall it.

Go to the HP Support Website:

  • Visit the HP Omen Command Center download page or go to your laptop’s specific support page.
  • Download the latest version of the Omen Command Center software.

Install the Software:

  • Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions to install the Omen Command Center.

Once installed, launch the Omen Command Center and navigate to the Keyboard settings to adjust the backlighting and colors.

2. Check the Keyboard Driver

If the Omen Command Center is installed but you still can’t change the keyboard backlighting, the issue may be related to your keyboard driver.

  • Open Device Manager:
    • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
    • Look for Keyboards and expand the section to see your keyboard driver.
  • Update the Driver:
    • Right-click your keyboard device (it should be listed under Keyboards).
    • Select Update Driver and follow the prompts to search for the latest driver.
    • If a newer driver is found, install it and restart your laptop.

3. Check the Keyboard Lighting Control in Omen Command Center

After ensuring that the software and drivers are properly installed, you should be able to control the keyboard backlighting and colors.

  • Launch the Omen Command Center.
  • Navigate to the "Lighting" tab or section (this can sometimes also be labeled as “Keyboard” or “Peripherals”).
    • In this section, you should find options for backlight control.
    • Choose from various lighting patterns and colors.
    • If you cannot change the lighting, make sure you have the correct keyboard selected in the software (if multiple devices are listed).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
