I can not for the life of me get the Dban wipe utility program to start at boot up.  I've used the CDBurnerXP disc burner software as recommended to burn the ISO file to the DVD but can't get it to boot up once it is burned. I've made sure that the boot sequence boots from the CD/DVD  drive first.  Has anyone used this free utility software to wipe their hard drive using a CD/DVD?  I've used Dban many years ago when the program booted from a floppy and it worked great.  Any ideas of what I might or might not be doing correctly?  I'm using Win 8.1

Hi,

Be sure to create the HP external recovery media.

You might be having a couple of issues.

If the laptop is not is legacy mode then the CD/DVD might not even be recognized. You will also need to disable secure boot. Additionally, the USB pre-OS parameter in the bios should to set to auto.

I got it to work.  Even though I changed the settings in BIOS, I had to enter the boot manager where I selected the CD/DVD drive and it booted from the disk.  Go figure.
