Death of a laptop or coma?

I actually own an HP Envy x360. After 18 months of use, I started seeing little hearts on the screen and the laptop felt warm to the touch. I shut it down and powered it up about an hour later when the same thing happened except the whole screen filled with those hearts and it powered down on it's own. 

Two questions:

1. Why did it heat up like that when it never did before?

2. Is it toast?
