Hi again 😀
I would suggest you replace the M2 PCIe NVMe drive with a drive of your desired brand and capacity. So, even 4TB is possible.
Example:
This will be much faster than any 2.5" drive and might even be cheaper. You could then reinstall Windows 11 on the PC.
You could use the old drive as a fast external USB drive if you buy an adapter.
To answer your question. It is not really clear in the service manual as the beginning says it supports it, But, then the section to replace the hard drive is missing. In the pictures, we can see it is present.
page 38 missing hard drive section.
https://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c07070931.pdf
so you will need to check if the slot that accepts the flex cable is present on the motherboard
here you can see how the hard drive is placed
If the slot on the motherboard is present, you will need to purchase the cable (blue in the picture above). The manual does not offer a part number for the cable.
Personally, I would try this cable.
Hard drive connector/cable L52656-001
Example
https://www.amazon.com/CSEZWASM-17M-CE0013DX-L52656-001-L54516-001-450-0G809-0001/dp/B0B976R6YM
So, if you have the cable then you can insert a HDD (max 2TB because of thickness of drive)
or a 2,5" SSD (no limit to capacity)
So, you see, much easier to replace the M2 drive with a larger capacity one.
Hope it helps,
David
