I do't know the administrator password for my HP Envy m6 laptop and the fingerprint reader stopped working. How can I get in?

I can offer limited advice on the subject...

Generally, you have to know your account password - and we cannot provide that.  We are similarly barred from providing any information on how to bypass the password security.

4d. No posts shall include instructions or directions intended to bypass or subvert security measures, including passwords, locking mechanisms, fingerprint scans, etc., or to bypass any safety measures.

Other Options include and may not be limited to...

You can try the Forced Reset option to try and get the fingerprint reader to start working again.

HP Notebook PCs - Computer Does Not Start (Windows 10)

(includes Hard Reset / Forced Reset)

and / or

  • Read the instructions, watch the video: Hard Reset

NOTE:  Forced / Power Reset is NOT a Windows Reset nor is this a "Recovery".  Forced / Power Reset simply clears the onboard "boot instructions" in memory and forces the computer to boot from the Operating System on disk.

If you are using a Microsoft password to log into the computer, see the following:

Microsoft Account – Password Reset

When you can't sign in to your Microsoft account

OR

Take the computer to a licensed Microsoft technician - be ready to prove ownership.  A licensed tech has the tools to breach the security on the computer.

OR

You can sacrifice the data on the computer and reinstall Windows 10.   Assuming you have your personal data backed up, this option can be painful but not catastrophic.
