Hi, my battery drained out totally after shutting off for a night which I remember charging it to full before my shut down.  I had done a HP battery test and everything is ok.  I had tried to press the F2 after the power button to call out the configuration but it cannot be executed.  Anyone has some advice on this problem.

Hi,

Do you have a model or product number for the unit ?

Use this link to find out your product number:

For the most part, if you put the laptop to Sleep or Hibernate, that is not a shutdown and battery is still being drained this is also influenced by your Power Plan in Windows. If you just press the power button on the laptop that is not a shutdown its just a sleep and the same goes if you just lower the screen on the laptop. If the screen is lowered chances are the laptop wont turn off at all if a program is in the background updating or if it can't close.

You can set a Power Saving power plan and disable fast startup. Its also best to have drivers and BIOS up to date. If you disable fast startup that helps even if you do a shutdown on the laptop:

And check this article for optimizing battery life on HP laptop:

Just to clarify since I am a little confused with details.

1-Are you saying the laptop will not power on at all after being shut down all night? If so that is not indicative of a battery draining completely. You should still be able to plug it in for a few minutes and power on with cord attached.

2-OR-are you saying it powered on with power cord but shows battery at 0%?

What I had did last night after reading through the forum.  I realized that it is the USB C socket that is draining out the battery.

I have an adaptor consisting of (Lan jack, audio jack, 3 USB port, 1 VGA) that is plugged on one of the USB C socket.  And this adaptor is necessary as all my other devices are not USB C ready.

Last evening before I left office, I plugged out the adaptor, this morning when I came to office.  My laptop is still 100% charged.  Unlike those times that I left it on the socket.

Therefore it is the USB C.  Anyone knows how to disable the USB C from charging.

I think your laptop comes with USB sleep and charge and this is why.

You can disable USB Selective Suspend in power options but i think you need to disable usb Sleep and charge in BIOS:

If the computer is shutdown -> Tap Esc and turn on laptop -> Startup menu will apepar then press F10 for BIOS setup utility -> Look in Advanced or Power for USB sleep and charge options if you disable those Press F10 to save changes and restart PC.

What this does is that, even if laptop is off, you can still charge your devices and probably thing is why your docking station is still powered.
