Extremely Hot CPU

My computer does not feel hot, yet in the analytics page, the CPU is apparently running at 149 degrees Fahrenheit. No apps are running or anything. I have not had this laptop for more than two weeks, so it is very new and I am very surprised. I have downloaded next to nothing (and I'm generally smart about what I do download) so I doubt the insane heat is because of a virus. Still, I scanned for any and got no finds back.

I think perhaps the analytics software thinks my computer is very hot—because again, the bottom and top are near cool to the touch.

Running Discord brought the temperatures up to an alleged 160 F and it has since cooled to 100 F (about an hour later). Even running discord, the laptop was only slightly warm, nothing near worryingly hot.

I just want to make sure I'm not destroying my new laptop—especially one that I enjoy so much otherwise.

There is no single temperature ceiling that applies to all model laptops, but as a general rule, under 170 degrees Fahrenheit is considered OK.

Newer laptops have more powerful processors and video chips and with the Lithium Ion batteries, tend to run a lot hotter routinely than the older laptops,  they are also thinner, leaving less space for the heat to dissipate.

My newer HP x360 runs warm nearly all the time and the fans spin noticeably, while my much older DV6 hardly gets warn and the fans make almost no noise other than when I am streaming HD videos with it.
