Hi,

I've currently doing a reset to factory settings on my laptop that I bought in November (1tb hard drive) and it's been doing this for about 9 hours now with only 19% complete. It does increase by 1% say every 30 minutes. Should it be taking this long? And what should I do?

Hello,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum.

Generally speaking, no , this should not be taking that long.

If your data is backed up and you have nothing important to loose, and if you have recovery CDs/DVDs or USB flash drive,  you can stop the process.  Then, I would suggest you check your HDD hard drive from the BIOS:

Then, if the hard disk drive is healthy (test passes) you can restart the process from your recovery medial and hopefully, it would be faster.

Here is some information how to perform Recovery - Win 7:

Win 8:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03489643

Please, let me know if something is not clear and don't hesitate to ask for help if you face issues.

Hi! Thanks for your help!
I don't have a recovery CD or USA flash drive. I have copied all my files that I wanted to keep on my UBS stick already.
Not sure what to do next!

Hi,

I received your private message.

In this case, I recommend you wait for the process to complete (as far as it is possible).

Please, provide me with update what is the condition now so that I see what can I advise you.  Thanks
