Failed windows update - will not boot
09-07-2020 10:31 AM

Hi
My HP Pavilion X2 OS advised to update windows so I followed on screen prompts, the update failed and device the went through a continuous cycle of rebooting with the message "Undoing changes to your computer..."
I can not boot at all, I access the troubleshooting menu tried all options such as restore, safe mode, repair etc but none worked and I cant boot the device.
Can you send me download link to bootable file I can put onto USB and set bios to boot from USB?
will this fix it
Many Thanks!!

Hi:
What is the full model number or product number of your notebook?
Use this guide to find that information...please do not post the serial number.

What operating system do you need to reinstall?
Have you run the hard drive diagnostics test in the computer menu (F2)?
I recommend you do that to rule out any hardware issues.

Hi
The hardware diagnostics in F2 were ok
M/N: 10-n102ne
Product: W2W47EA#ABV
device was working perfectly until the failed update so I don't suspect any hardware issues
windows 10
thanks

You're very welcome.
You can reinstall W10 for free by making bootable installation media using the Media creation tool at the link below with another Windows PC. Make the 64 bit installation media.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
The Windows product key is in the BIOS, so you don't need it to install W10.
After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.
If you need to recover important files, let W10 install over the current installation and it will create a Windows.old folder.
After W10 installs you can explore the Window.old folder, find your old user profile and copy and paste the folders from your old profile to the new one.
Then you can delete the Windows.old folder using the disk cleanup utility>cleanup system files button on the lower left corner of the disk cleanup window.
If you do not need to save any files, when you get to the part of the installation that asks 'Where do you want to install Windows, delete every partition on the hard drive, leaving just one partition of unallocated space.
Click Next, and W10 should install.
Since the eMMC drive is only 32 GB, that will provide the maximum amount of storage space for you.
