Hi, i have a problem where sometimes laptop fans stop working randomly and only way to get it working again is to restart the pc.
My bios and my windows 11 updates are latest.
How to fix this?

Hi @senrign,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
If the fans on your OMEN by HP 16.1-inch Gaming Laptop (16-xd0000) stop working randomly and only resume after a restart, even with the latest BIOS and Windows updates, it could be caused by one of the following:
Possible Causes and Solutions:
BIOS Settings: Ensure the BIOS settings are correctly configured for fan control. Access the BIOS by restarting your laptop and pressing the appropriate key (usually F10) during startup. Look for any settings related to thermal or fan management and ensure they are set to default or optimal performance.
OMEN Gaming Hub Settings: The OMEN Gaming Hub software allows for fan control. Check if the "Performance Control" or "Fan Control" settings are set to “Automatic” or “Default.” If you have manually set them, try switching back to automatic mode.
Corrupted Driver or Software Conflicts: A corrupted or incompatible driver might cause the fan to stop working. Try reinstalling the chipset and thermal drivers for your laptop from the HP support site.
Overheating or Sensor Issues: If a thermal sensor fails or misreads temperatures, it may cause the fans to stop. To check if there are overheating issues, monitor your laptop's temperature using software like HWMonitor or OMEN Gaming Hub.
Check for Background Processes: Sometimes, background applications can cause the fan to malfunction. Open the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check for any processes consuming a lot of CPU or memory.
Hardware Issue: The issue might be hardware-related, such as a loose fan connection or a faulty fan module. If the problem persists, consider contacting HP Support for a hardware diagnostic.
- Run Hardware Diagnostics: Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool (pre-installed on your laptop) to check for hardware faults. Press F2 on startup to access the diagnostics menu.
- Update Firmware: If HP releases a firmware update for the fans or thermal management, install it.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be best to reach out to HP Phone Support or take your laptop to an authorized service center for further inspection.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
