Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all, I have purchased a new HP Omen and I'm retiring my Pavillion 15-aw030ca notebook the issue is this, trying to return the notebook to factory settings using the HP cloud recovery tools http://support.hp.cloud-recovery.s3-website-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/  my product shows as available but I have run it 3 times and each time I get the message "recovery failed"

Do I need to turn off the secure boot function in the bios to get it to work??

Hi, @SharkyCA1 the website you linked is not the official site for HP Cloud Recovery which is why you are experiencing the error message.

Use these two resources to properly do the HP Cloud Recovery process.

HP Cloud Recovery Tool - Aplicativos Microsoft Store

Hi, @SharkyCA1

Yes, you can try turning off secure boot first, but if that doesn't work, I have read a few posts where folks have changed the date in the BIOS back to around the time the notebook was made, and for some strange reason that worked for them.

Something having to do with the usual trial antivirus program that comes with the notebook being expired if it detects the current date in the BIOS, and the recovery fails.

So, when was your notebook made?

The 4th 5th and 6th characters of the serial number will be numbers.

The 4th character is the year of manufacture (0-9) and the 5th and 6th are the week of manufacture (01-52).

So, if the 4th character is an '8' for example, set the date in the BIOS for May 4, 2018 and see what happens.

That is the link from HP website to download the software from their site, not the Microsoft Store!

Okay, I see. At this point, try the suggestion that @Paul_Tikkanen made and see if it works out for you.

Hi Paul, tried resetting the system date based on serial# but recovery fails, problem is it does reformat the hard drive and takes a couple of hours to run!

Looking at the "born on" date of 09/05/2016 I am trying it again with a fresh USB created on my new HP Omen from the Microsoft store using the HP Tool for cloud restore with my product # for the old laptop, will post an update after this runs!

Cheers!

Hi:

If that trick doesn't work, I believe your only option would be to use the Microsoft media creation tool to clean install W10.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

If you plan on selling the PC, after W10 installs, once you are at the welcome screen, press and hold the power button until the PC shuts off.

Then the new owner can turn it on and set it up with their info.

They will have to install the drivers and available software from the support page, since those will be missing.

Thanks for your input on this Paul, I did try setting the "system date" to the born date, still no success, as well as resetting the bios to factory settings. I am wondering since I have updated the bios since 2016 as well as increased the memory from 8gig to 16 and changed the hard drive from a Samsung(which was failing) to a Western Digital SSD 1TB  if it could be a problem.

I do have the error log and would be happy to post it if you have any interest, as I am typing this I had loaded Linux into the old PC just to totally erase the hard drive and have just now started the HP Cloud Recovery tool again, it goes through all the steps such as booting, formatting drive, software being installed screen, admin screen a couple of times and THEN reports an error when it should be booting up!

These photos are not necessarily in order!

At this point, it has already booted and rebooted a couple of times!

I normally get a couple of screens "of software installing" before it reports a failure! 20220505_164447.jpg

Last screen then request for recovery media!

Here is the zip file if you're interested, I do run Norton for my computers and network protection link to Mediafire!

You're very welcome.

Sorry, that didn't work out.

I would not know how to interpret the error logs.

I have had the tool not work on one of my notebooks, and gave up after multiple tries, and clean installed W10.
