HP Envy Laptop Locked / Encrypted w/ Bitlocker
03-10-2021 04:24 PM

Recently updated my system and evidently Bitlocker is automatically enabled on WIndows 10 devices. I don't have the recovery key, and I never set it up with Microsoft. Essentially the key is lost and Iwill not be able to recover the laptop so I want to just reimage the laptop to the factory settings.
1. Can I boot to a Windows 10 bootable USB and reformat the drive?
2. Is there an HP Envy image I can download to get all the drivers and applications that come default on the HP Envy laptop?
3. Will I need a new HD if 1 and 2 are not possible?

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,
I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. I would suggest performing system factory reset will put the computer back to the original factory settings.
The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.
