Hello,

I did an set up updates two weeks ago (early November) which including a BIOS update and significant windows updates. After the updates the computer could not recognize the charging cable or power on.

The local HP service center would not touch it claiming they could not get parts. there is a burning smell when the unit is plugged in that indicates a possible mother board failure.

Has anyone else experienced this? It is a relatively new unit just out of warranty.

Hi @chogben,

Thank you for sharing the details with us. Since you’re noticing a burning smell and the laptop is not powering on or detecting the charger after the recent BIOS and Windows updates, this could indicate a hardware failure on the system board or power circuit.

Before we move further, please send me your Case ID private message, so we can verify the previous service record and explore the available options.

For now, please avoid attempting to power it on or plug it back in.

A burning smell suggests a component short or electrical damage.

Continuing to plug it in can cause further board damage.

Do not attempt:

Using a different charger repeatedly to test.

Opening the laptop or attempting any repairs yourself.

Performing a BIOS recovery with power interruptions present.

Once we receive your case ID via private message, we can check what support options are available, even if the unit is just out of warranty.

Looking forward to your message so we can assist you further.
