I worked in IT and am the home tech support. Windows 11 Home isn't supposed to have Bitlocker but when I tried to update the BIOS today (and update Bluetooth drivers to try fix a disconnect problem) it warned me to save my Bitlocker key and said it would turn off encryption. Is this normal?

Yes, apparently it is.

I received a new HP notebook in 2020 with W10 Home and as I was setting up the PC, I was asked if I wanted to export the BitLocker recovery key to my Microsoft account.

I wasn't sure what this meant, since the notebook had W10 Home, but I went ahead and did it and was I glad I did!

After I set up the notebook, I was prompted to do a BIOS update by the HP support assistant software and after the BIOS was updated, I was prompted to enter the BitLocker recovery key.

Now I make absolutely sure that BitLocker is turned off from time to time because once BitLocker enabled itself and I did not do it.

I also saved the BitLocker key as a text file on another PC just in case.
