I had to do a factory reset on my HP laptop. I have had it for a few years, and it was bogged down. Since the reset, I can't log in to Microsoft. I have answered their security questions numerous times, but they keep saying that they can't verify me. I didn't think I'd ever have to use my phone number to log in cuz I always used my password. Now, when I try to log in, they want to send a code to my phone, which I don't have anymore. I have sent them all of my personal info, my email and recovery email and the only 3 passwords I've used since college - and I'm almost 50 years old now! I have tried the "forgot password" and all their recovery steps, but I still can't log in. I've even tried using my android and my desktop computer to log in, but they are saying the same thing. Is there another way to bypass the Microsoft login so that I can use my laptop? Or do I have to trash because of Microsoft?

@mjannas40, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

I understand the frustration you're experiencing. Unfortunately, this issue relates to Microsoft account recovery, which is outside of HP's control. We cannot bypass Microsoft’s account security or reset your password. However, I can help guide you through some options to get your laptop working again.

Option 1: Recover Your Microsoft Account

You can try to recover your Microsoft account using these steps:

Recovery Form: Go to Microsoft Account Recovery and follow the prompts. The more details you can provide (previous passwords, recovery emails, etc.), the better the chance of success.

Contact Microsoft Support: If recovery fails, contact Microsoft directly for assistance.

Option 2: Set Up a Local Account or Reinstall Windows

If you no longer need access to your Microsoft account and want to get your laptop working again, you can:

HP Cloud Recovery: You can use the HP Cloud Recovery Tool to create a USB recovery drive and reinstall Windows. This will remove all data on the laptop, but it will restore the system to its factory state, allowing you to set up a local account.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
