Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Ok so I've been using my laptop to play games and in a while I noticed that it gets hot after, let's say 3-4 hours of playing and now I hava a problem. I opened it and then I already noticed a change, the problem: It runs slow. So I did a scan using windows defender(thought it was some malware or virus) and then after at least 30 mins I got an error message. I didn't manage to capture the errror message but the laptop started to "Repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete.". After 1 hour and 30 mins I decided to press the power button to force it to shut down and then opened it and now it is "Scanning and repairing drive(C):0% complete". After another 1 hour, I forced to shut to it down again and opened it and then I had the option to skip it and so I skipped the diagnostics. The laptop opened properly and running smooth. I thought the problem is over but then I received a notification that I need to restart it and I did restart it. And now it is stuck in either "Repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete." or "Scanning and repairing drive(C):0% complete". I no longer have the option to skip. I also read a similiar problem on this site and tried to do the same thing. I did System Test Quick Test. And this is the result. 44511056_2341461865895245_3426953159937884160_n.jpg

Hi:

The exact description of the code is:  Hard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure

This means that you have to replace the hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

Sometimes this is a false reading, so you can first try to reinstall W10 on the existing hard drive.

If W10 won't install on the hard drive, then it will have to be replaced.

If you don't have W10 recovery media, you can make your own by using the Media Creation Tool at the link below.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

You can make a W10 USB flash drive installer using an 8 GB flash drive.

If it won't install and would have to replace, I won't be able to recover the data in it?

HP Recommended

Probably not.

But if you have to replace the drive, you can buy a USB to SATA notebook hard drive adapter, plug it into a USB port and see if you can read any data on the hard drive.

Slr. So I did a factory reset and it worked. Laptop is now opening properly. However in the test, hard drive is already scanned as damaged. Am I safe to assume that my laptop won't run as smoothly as before? What should I expect now that the laptop's hard drive is damaged?

I imagine you will have to replace the hard drive in the very near future.

Eventually, it is going to fail altoghether.
