HP Pavilion 16 inch Laptop PC 16-ag0000 (955U3AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My brand new HP Pavilion has under a month and never worked correctly.

It has Windows 11 24H2 OS Build 26100.5074 installed and frequently freezes for a few seconds then BSODs with different code each time like  KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED,  WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR, but there are others. Afterwards it tries to reboot and usually displays a 3F0 disk error as the NVMe is not detected by the BIOS. If I power cycle, it boots Windows normally.

Things I have tried (and did not work):

* Updated the BIOS to version F.08. HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows 2.8.0.0 still suggests updating my current F.08 to F.8 (a bug?)

* Updated all drivers

* Run diagnostics, memory, disk, etc both from Windows and from BIOS. All tests quick and slow pass

* Reset Windows Installation using recovery partition contents

There is some chatter with KB5063878 and SSD problems pretty much the same to what I describe. I have been unable to install/reset to a build before 26100.4946 (included in KB5063878 ), however I had freezes during the initial installation which hints it is a hardware problem.

@ostealth

Thank you for providing such a detailed description.

From what you’ve shared, it sounds like your HP Pavilion 16 is experiencing intermittent hardware issues like a heartbeat that suddenly skips, likely related to the NVMe/SSD, possibly combined with firmware or driver conflicts.

We recommend running a full hardware diagnostics test to see if any hidden errors reveal themselves. Since your laptop is less than a year old, we can definitely provide warranty support to get it back to smooth, reliable performance.

Please let me know if this helps or if you need further support. We’re here to make sure your laptop hums along perfectly.

Thanks for your reply.

When I contacted HP Support, we tried several things, one being Full Hardware diagnostic. Unfortunately it did not solve the problem.

Ended up returning the laptop.
