@MAKARA1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Recovery Problems!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Check USB Drive Compatibility:
Ensure that your USB flash drive meets the minimum requirements (32 GB or more). If the USB flash drive size is not adequate, it might not properly store the recovery files.

Reformat USB Flash Drive:
Sometimes reformatting the USB flash drive can resolve issues related to drive configuration. Make sure you back up all important data on the USB, as reformatting will erase all contents.

Ensure Proper Disk Space:
Make sure there is at least 20 GB of free disk space on the Windows partition of your laptop.

Restart the HP Cloud Recovery Tool:
Re-run the HP Cloud Recovery Tool and verify that all parameters are set as required for the process.

Proxy Configuration Check:
If you are on a secure network, verify the proxy settings and make sure they are correct. Sometimes the tool automatically detects and populates proxy information, but if it doesn't, you might need to manually enter it.

Correct Serial Number:
Double-check to ensure you entered the correct serial number when prompted for the Product ID. Any incorrect information might result in an error.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

@MAKARA1, Thanks for sharing the details (and the screenshot, that really helps paint the picture). The error you’re seeing — “Failed to get disk size, Error code = [0x000001B1]” and the Intel Smart Response message — usually pops up when the system can’t properly read the storage drive. It’s like the recovery tool is knocking on the door but not getting a response from the disk.

A couple of quick things you can try:

Check BIOS settings – Restart your laptop, tap F10 to enter BIOS, and under Storage/Configuration, see if Intel Rapid/Smart Response (RST) is enabled. If it’s disabled, try turning it on.

Run an HP hardware diagnostics – Restart, press F2, and run the System Test → Hard Drive Test. This will confirm if the drive itself is healthy.

Recovery media option – If the recovery partition isn’t accessible, using a USB recovery drive created earlier (or requesting one from HP) may be the way forward.

If the hard drive test shows red flags, the issue might be hardware-related (drive failure), and replacing the storage drive would be the next step.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
