Hi HP Community,

I was recently tasked with helping my little cousin with his laptop. There was a boot issue that indicated bad system config info. I had tried numerous solutions but could not seem to get into the Windows 10 OS. I even tried to perform the recovery but there was no luck in doing this, not even with the HP recovery tool. I was forced to perform a clean installation of the windows 10 OS and it has been successful. The only drawback is I have lost all the HP software that was downloaded and installed onto this computer. I figure that my cousin will require some of these downloaded and installed tools but I am not sure how to recover them. Is there still a way to recover them after the clean install where everything was wiped? How can I go about solving this issue? Please advise.

Thanks,

Sonny

Small update: I ran a mem test and a hard drive test. The mem test has passed and everything is ok. The hard drive test passed the smart check but failed the Long DST check

Hi Sonny,

The failure code indicates "Hard Disk 1 Full Test Failure"

You will need to replace the hard drive and reinstall the OS.

I believe your notebook is still under warranty, so you should contact HP support directly and have replaced under warranty.

Personally, I would remove the Optane memory and the Hard Drive and insert an M2 PCIe NVMe SSD such as the M2 Samsung 970 Evo Plus.

Once you reinstall the OS you can find the software on the product page for your notebook

You can even perform cloud recovery which would bring the PC to the state it was in when new.

Hope it helps,
