HP Spectre Windows 11 Crashes while running with boot_device... - HP Support Community

Over the past month, my HP Spectre x360 has begun crashing while using the computer with error boot_device_not_found. However, the device is able to boot just fine. The crashes only occur after boot and log on. Dump file creation also fails so I cannot figure out what triggers the crash. System logs just show that the crashes are unexpected. I am running Windows 11. In fact I have hard reset the computer and reinstalled Windows 11 from a USB flash drive. During this install, I deleted all partitions. I did not clean the drives but I believe that means everything should be deleted. The crashes are less frequent now but they have not gone away. Instead of crashing while not in use (locked), it only crashes while in use. But the crashes have not gone away and still no dump file created.

If it is not the OS as I have wiped and reinstalled Windows 11, does this seem like a hardware issue? Is my hard drive failing? Nothing popped on check disk or UEFI hard drive checks.

I am working on getting those logs. Looks like I didn't have the latest UEFI. It was a stripped down version. The storage extensive check passed but it also only took 5 minutes. The link in the youtube video didn't work so I'm trying to to see if I can get an updated version of UEFI.

In the meantime, I am getting a new error. Which could be progress. Before, BSOD would come unexpectedly, no dump file, and error was BOOT_DEVICE_NOT_FOUND.

Now, things will start to freeze up, so I know it's coming. BSOD with CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED. Still no boot log created. Any suggestions there while I work on the UEFI extensive storage test. I do have different Error events I can see. Though viewing those events seems to cause the crash to occur.

Any ideas on what else I should look for while working on the UEFI logs?

You can use another Windows computer to create a bootable HP Diagnostics <USB flash drive>.

(1) Download and install from Microsoft Apps Store

HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows

or

HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows v1.8.2.0

(2) Run HP Diagnostics Setup and choose installation location <USB flash drive>

(3) On the target computer disable <Secure Boot> in BIOS

(4) Boot from <USB flash drive> ( HP Diagnostics )

(5) Please report your results

I was able to run the extensive check and the system did not crash. It did not check the battery as the computer was plugged in. Here are the logs

I wanted to close this out.

It has been working for the past 2 weeks. Not sure which wiping got it to work. But so far so good. I'll post back here if something changes. Unfortunately I cannot idneitfy what ultimately fixed the issue.

I of course spoke too soon. It just started happening today. With my laptop unplugged and moving around (normally, it is plugged in on a desk), it has crashed twice in the last hour. The blue screen is too fast to catch the error code, but Event Viewer does show that a dump file failed to create. My question would be where to start this time.

There is another thing I should mention about my computer since the last rebuild. I cannot sync the date/time w/ a NTSP server. Microsoft, Navy, or others don't work. I tried different servers, checks, and editing registry but nothing worked. So I switched to manually setting the time.
