HP Spectre x360 - 13-4002dx (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Having issues with the this device where certain keys on the keyboard don't work. This is still the case even after a physical keyboard replacement so its likely the motherboard (USB keyboard works fine). I've seen cases where this resolved with a BIOS update/re-update but i cannot find any downloadable drivers for this device on the HP site.

The current BIOS is F.54 Rev.A. Is there an archive or any way of obtaining this update?

Hi @DK4865

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If certain keys on your HP Spectre x360's keyboard are not functioning correctly despite replacing the keyboard, and you suspect a BIOS issue, here are steps you can follow:

Troubleshooting and BIOS Update

Re-check Connections: Ensure that the keyboard is properly connected internally. Sometimes, a loose connection can cause specific keys not to work.

BIOS Update:

  • Visit HP Support: Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page.
  • Enter your product number (HP Spectre x360 - 13-4002dx) in the search bar.
  • Once you enter the product page, select the "BIOS" category to check for available BIOS updates.
  • Download and install the latest version if available.

Keyboard Driver:

  • Ensure that keyboard drivers are up-to-date or try uninstalling the keyboard from the Device Manager and then restart your laptop to reinstall the drivers automatically.

Reset BIOS Settings:

  • Access the BIOS setup by pressing F10 when booting.
  • Once in the BIOS, restore the default settings, which can sometimes resolve configuration conflicts.

USB Keyboard: Since the USB keyboard works, consider using it temporarily while troubleshooting continues or as an alternative solution.

Additional Troubleshooting

Hardware Diagnosis Tool: Run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI. Restart the computer, and when the HP logo appears, press F2 for the diagnostic menu. Test the functionality of the keyboard there.

Check System Logs: Use Windows Event Viewer to check for any system logs that might indicate what’s causing the keyboard issue.

If updating or resetting the BIOS does not help, and as the problem persisted after replacing the keyboard, it could indeed be related to the motherboard.
