I bought a laptop last month (Nov 2024), direct from HP - it was a "build-your-own". When I enter the serial number, the HP support site says that that serial number is tied to a 2014-vintage laptop where, of course, the warranty is long since expired. Namely, it thinks I own an EliteBook 840 G1 Notebook PC. But that isn't what I purchased.

I opened a case with HP and, via chat, was told that the problem would be resolved in about two weeks. But a couple of days ago, HP closed the case without doing anything.

Anyone know how to get HP to recognize my laptop for what it is? (A 2024-vintage machine)

Thanks!

Make sure you have the correct serial number:  Bring up the HP Support Assistant and select your laptop.

Using the trackpad/mouse highlight the serial number and copy and paste it into the warranty check application.

If still a problem then return the laptop.
