HP Notebook - 15-bw018ca
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

When starting up windows I get this message.

SMART HARD DISK ERROR

The SMART disk chck has detected an imminent failure. To ensure not data loss please backup the content immediately and run the hard disk Test in System Diagnostics.

Hard disk 1 (301)

ENTER - Continue startup

For more information, please visit: www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The hard disk checkup test fails and displays this 24 digit code

U35XHK-8P88RF-XD7URG-60BC03

Product ID : 1UG64UA#ABL

Current version: 1.18.0.0

This was the only hard disk that could be checked. The laptop did not have any valuable information on it so I don't care about losing anything on it.

Do I have to buy a new hard drive? That seems to be the answer in the other forums. The laptop is only 3-4 weeks old. My warranty with BestBuy expired. Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

You have a 1 year warranty from HP. They will replace the hard drive. Also tell them you did not have time to make Recovery Media- unless of course you did.

Use your Serial number on the page here to get warranty service for your laptop:

Hi

Yes you will need to buy a replacement, unless the HDD maker provides a warranty.

Piriform Speccy will probably give you enough details to match and check.

You need an OS to re-install, assuming it's an MS one, and you dont have other separate Recovery Media...

ISO images of various Microsoft OS's are available. They can be be downloaded (sometimes you need a licence key other than the HP OEM key) and 'burnt' to a DVD or USB. They will NOT contain the appropriate HP software, like drivers etc, but will enable a repair to be started

For when you only have Linux etc (non MS OS) to create install media.

Belarc Adviser will give lots of useful info to print out.

If in doubt plase ask.
