When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and/or product number of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.

The above requested information can be found on the bottom of your computer or inside the battery compartment. Please do not include your serial number.

It will be necessary to set the SATA settings in BIOS to IDE mode. If your computer doesn't support this option, you will need to "slipstream" SATA / AHCI drivers into the Windows XP disc using a utility such as nLite OS.

Here are the specs for your HP 2000-2d01TU Notebook Computer. According to the specs, this model shipped with FreeDOS installed at the factory.

Honestly, this model appears to use modern hardware but only supports Intel Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge CPUs. Again, because this is newer hardware, you will most likely have to find an "IDE" option under the SATA Controller section or you will have to slip stream Intel SATA / AHCI drivers into the Windows XP installation disc.

Your computer may also support "Secure Boot" and "Legacy Support" which may hamper your attempts to install an older operating system. Installing XP on this computer will take a good bit of work and you may consider letting a professional do the install. You will need to DISABLE "Secure Boot" and ENABLE "Legacy Support" to install Windows XP.

+++++ UPDATE +++++

Special thanks to Paul_Tikkanen and Daniel_Potyrala.

You will need to slipstream the following Intel SATA AHCI drivers into a Windows XP disc. Second file is for XP 32 bit.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=20868&lang=eng&OSVersion=%0A%09%09%0...=

Please see Daniel's post for instruction on how to do that. You should read the Intel section and then follow the instructions on the downloadable document to slipstream all of the drivers. That way you are sure to get the right one.

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-e-g-Windows-8-and-Software/SATA-drivers-for-...

If you have a USB FDD, you can also extract the above 32 bit Intel drivers to a FDD, hit the F6 key when it asks if you need to install a SATA/RAID driver, and use the up down arrow keys to scroll to and select the specific SATA AHCI driver needed for your model which is the Intel(R) 7 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller.

After you get XP to install, you can try the XP Pro drivers from the HP Probook 4540s.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=5229457&...

You will have to get the card reader driver directly from Realtek, as the 4540s has a different model card reader. Please download the "Realtek Card Reader Checking Tool" to determine what card reader is installed in your computer. Select US1, US2, or US3 of the "Reader checking tool" as shown below. After running this tool, download and install the correct driver, as reported by the tool, for your computer.

After installing the drivers, please post the Windows Device Manager's "Hardware Ids" for any missing or unknown devices as shown in the example below;

Amol_Waradkar,

Provided your computer supports Secure Boot and/or Legacy Support, you will need to DISABLE "Secure Boot" and maybe ENABLE "Legacy Support" in the "BIOS Secure Boot cofiguration" on the settings page shown below before you can attempt to install Windows 7;

or

Select Enabled

I suggest using a Windows 7 SP1 disc for the best intallation experience. If you need a Windows SP1, please see "How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc" to download and create your own.  If you prefer to install Windows 7 from a USB Flash Drive, please download the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool to create a Windows 7 SP1 USB Flash Drive,.

Here are the specs for your HP 2000-2d01TU Notebook Computer.  For your model, HP appears to only provide Windows 8 drivers. Many of the Windows 7 drivers ( with the exception of the Card Reader) from the HP ProBook 4540s Notebook Computer Drivers page should work on your computer.

Re: How do i Intsall Win 7 32/64 bit OS in HP 2000 2d01TU notebook ?

Thanks for the 'Expert' help. Yes this model was purchased with Free DOS OS, assuming that my available copy of Win 7 OS will work, but in vain. This model support only Win 8 64 bit (wonder how it will perform with only 2GB of RAM) and as per HP support this model is not tesed on Win 7 OS (backward compatibility gone for a toss). Guess HP wants us to 'unlearn' few technology concepts LOL....I will surely check out your updates and revert (with a Kudos). Thanks a Ton

 just turn off Secure boot and enable Legacy support instead of installing windows xp why not install 7 and get xp mode from microsoft i feel it is much safer.
