What would be an ideal hard drive replacement and can I still get a recovery disc even if my laptop is out of warranty?

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

Laptops typically use 2 1/5" drives, known as laptop drives, and any drive of the same capacity or larger will suffice.  The make and model drive do not matter.

It appears you are in luck!  This page links to the HP drivers and software available for your PC for Win7:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-m6-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/5259...

Down near the bottom, you will see the link you click to order HP Recovery Media.

HP Recovery Media is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities. In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks. You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded.

Once you have the media, read through this: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00006110

Good Luck
